Event description

A special 1 day event

The Filipino unKonference is a gathering to have our discussions where some of the conventional conference things are avoided such as corporate sponsors talks, no-action slide presentations, hotels halls, academic institutions, entrance fees, and call for papers. This is an experiment to try something different. Is it possible to produce a donation based event? Donation for the entrance and vendors? Is it possible to have a loose agenda with the afternoon left to the attendees to decide what they want to do?

  • – Discuss – Let’s have the conversation, right or wrong.
  • – Disrupt – Create something different. Break it or redo it better.
  • – Disseminate – Spread the knowledge (not just by reposting).
  • – Do – Stop talking too much and just do it to see if it works or not.

Scheduled activities

  • – Traditional preFilipino tattoo talk and demo with Lane Wilcken
  • – Student psychologists from The Wright Institute to speak about their experiences in psychology as Filipino Americans, colonial mentality, and their research.
